The programme kicks off with the Istanbul International Carpet Conference, which will feature local and international speakers on a wide variety of topics. The week also includes the awards ceremony for IHIB’s 10th annual National Carpet Design Contest.<ref> https://www.cornucopia.net/events/istanbul-carpet-week/</ref> Ten antique rugs from different regions of Anatolia from private collections of merchants were on display for all  in the lobby of ITKIB’s (Istanbul Textile and Apparel Exporters' Association) building where some of the activities were held.<ref>ALIVE-2017-kontrol.pdf</ref>

Carol Sebert discussed contemporary design in rugs, Erbil Tezcan discussed designing rugs, Rob Leahy discussed the difficulties of and new developments in the conventional US rug market, Prof Dr Hamdi Ünal discussed Hereke carpets, Stefano Ionescu discussed double-niche ‘Transylvanian’ rugs, Udo Hirsch discussed Anatolian kilims and Hadi Maktabi discussed rugs from Azerbaijan.<ref>https://www.cornucopia.net/events/istanbul-carpet-week/</ref>

The week included the awards ceremony for IHIB’s 10th annual National Carpet Design Contest, networking sessions, and B2B opportunities for buyers and retailers to explore with Turkish rug companies.
