Nourison rugs company was started in the rug business basically as an importer in the early 1980s and has become one of the most diversified producer and importer of rugs, carpets, and home accessories. They introduce themselves as "a leading floor covering expert for premium handmade area rugs" that "offer[s] signature handcrafted designer rugs". Nonetheless, Nourison is well known for its highly differentiated programmed collections. Their inventory has more than 4,500 distinct styles in area rugs alone.

History of Nourison company

Brothers Paul, Alex, and Stephen Peykar founded Nourison in New York City in 1980 after building a reputation in the retail flooring segment. Their knowledge about the challenges facing retailers involved with imports, helped them to establish a wholesale rug and carpet distribution process that could offer a proper level of service across the entire supply chain, all the way to the stocking dealer.

Nourison’s philosophy was that: “We created new merchandising possibilities with reliably programmed collections. We addressed the retailer’s greatest concerns: selection and timely delivery.”
Today, the company offers a comprehensive range of products across styles and price ranges, in both commercial and residential spaces:

  • Signature collections of luxurious handmade rugs
  • Prestigious designer lines featuring top brands in the home décor market
  • Axeminster and Wilton broadloom carpets for both luxury and commercial spaces
  • Quality affordable area rugs created on state-of-the-art power looms
  • Modern, eclectic home accessories, including decorative pillows, throws, and accents

Nourison's brands

Color Couture

The main concept of this brand is innovative but simple: "Choose your favorite design & coordinate with your home decor!". Nourison helps their customer to customize their rug in four steps: design, color, size, and hand crafted.

  1. Design. Choose from over 60 designs. Styles include Transitional, Contemporary, Traditional, Botanical, Southwestern, and Skins.
  2. Color. Choose from Nourison's bank of 120 colors to create an area rug with a color palette that matches customer's decor or vision.
  3. Size. No need to settle for stock sizes. The rug is crafted to order; perfect for unusual sized rooms, or open-floor-plan homes.
  4. Hand Crafted. All area rugs are hand-tufted of 100% New Zealand wool, with a super dense pile. Surfaces are finished with a plush, smooth finish, and hand-carved design or a hand-sculpted, raised finish.
