Red is the most frequently used color in Persian carpets, especially in medallion and corner designs. The use of red stems from a specific symbolism.
Persian Red
In the central Iranian plateau, the soil looks yellow throughout the land, but when it rains, the soil in the area turns red. Therefore, red on the Persian carpet symbolizes a plea for rain.
